Komine Saddle Bags – one of the most affordable saddle bags in Nepal, worth it or not?

Before jumping into my experience on this product, let me tell you a story behind buying this saddle bag of Komine brand. I think it is the one of the cheapest saddle bags in Nepal; moreover, it is the only one saddle bag that is available in Nepal, so there is not a comparison, take it or leave it. That’s the reason why I had to take it. In this blog post, I would like to share my experience on this bag and whether should you buy it or not. If you do not believe in stories, then you can directly jump into this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRa_DRfsaco&t=756s

Actually, I had been looking for a saddle bag for my Himalayan since the day I bought it and after a hectic search for about a week, I discovered a website named hardware pasal located in Kathmandu, Nepal. I was so pleased to get one finally. But, all of a sudden, I got dilemma once I looked at its price, which was just NPR. 4,500. I was so amazed that we cannot even get a good pair of gloves in NPR. 5,000, but I was getting a saddle bag that has the capacity of 36 liters and 58 liters when fully expanded. I did not have any choice and I was so keen to have one because I had already made a plan for a long ride. It took me another 3 to 4 days to get arrived this product in my hometown.

Now, let’s take a look at the product. It is not that much bad, as it is a pretty good looking saddle bag that has one expandable bag in each side that has the capacity of 18 liters, and both provide the capacity of 36 liters, and 58 liters when we unzipped an extra layer. It is pretty big and enough to store clothes, shoes, other accessories but it is not suitable for keeping electronics, mobiles and laptops. It has a Komine name printed at the back of each bag that reflects light at night, which is good. It also comes with a rain cover. Furthermore, it provides plenty of straps to tie it properly and safely in a motorcycle. Its outer surface is quite hard and rigid that protects your bag and inside’s stuff from minor crashes.

Even though the bag looks quite decent and fits really well in my Royal Enfield Himalayan, it does not have a lock, so you cannot keep your bike in a park and go far because anyone can get inside your bag easily by unzipping the bag. Similarly, it does not have a proper rigid bottom surface. If the bag would come with a lock system and a solid surface at the bottom, then it would be an amazing product in the given price range.

I know you might have already thought of buying this saddle bag for your bike, right? Hold on, still, there are some important things you should know before pressing that proceed button in your online shopping page. The bag desperately requires a luggage career (saddle stay frame) to fit in properly and safely in your motorcycle. However, I also do not have a luggage career but it stays quite well in Himalayan because of its narrow seat but it cannot hold if you load the bag fully. Similarly, the bag is not suitable for wider rear seated motorcycles.
