What Makes Jefale Special?
Jefale is a peaceful village that showcases the essence of rural Nepal. The highlight of this destination is the Jefale Tower, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view. On a clear day, visitors can see up to 16 districts from the top, making it a truly remarkable viewpoint.
Apart from the tower, the area is surrounded by lush hills and traditional settlements. Nearby, you can also visit a temple and spend some quiet, reflective time. For those who wish to stay longer, Jefale also offers homestay facilities, allowing visitors to experience local culture and hospitality firsthand.

Why Is Jefale Still Less Explored?
Despite its beauty, Jefale remains relatively unknown among local tourists. One of the main reasons is its distance from major urban hubs like Itahari, Biratnagar, Dharan, and Damak. Since most travelers originate from these densely populated cities, destinations that are farther away tend to receive less attention.
A Perfect Destination for Riders and Hikers
Jefale is especially popular among adventure enthusiasts. Whether you enjoy hiking or riding motorcycles and bicycles, this destination offers an exciting experience. From Itahari, it takes about 2 hours on a motorcycle via Khursane and Kerabari.
A popular route followed by many riders is:
Itahari → Khursane → Kerabari → Jefale → Rajarani → Dharan → Itahari
This circular route is scenic but takes a full day to complete, so proper planning is essential.
Route Guide to Jefale
Starting from Itahari, head straight towards Khursane in Morang. From there, take a left turn towards Kerabari. The road from Khursane to Kerabari is smooth and newly pitched, making for a pleasant ride.
However, once you cross Kerabari, the real adventure begins. The road turns into a gravel and off-road track. From Kerabari, it takes approximately 1.5 hours of continuous off-road riding to reach the beautiful village of Jefale.
Reaching the Jefale Tower
After arriving at Jefale Bazaar, you can enjoy lunch or snacks to recharge. About 200 meters ahead, you’ll find the entrance gate leading to Jefale Tower.
From there, it’s a 25-minute uphill walk to reach the top. The climb involves many steps, but the reward is worth it—a stunning panoramic view of hills and distant districts.
For those who prefer not to walk, there is an alternative route that allows bikes to reach the top of the tower.

Return Journey Options
You have two main options for your return journey:
1. Same Route Back
You can retrace your path back to Itahari, which typically takes 2–3 hours.
2. Scenic Route via Bhedetar
A more recommended option is to continue towards Dhankuta and Bhedetar. On the way, you’ll pass through Rajarani, a popular tourist attraction where you can enjoy boating in Rajarani Lake.
From Jefale to Bhedetar, the ride takes around 2 hours, depending on your speed and riding skills. Once at Bhedetar, you can relax with hot thukpa, coffee, or other refreshments before heading back to Dharan and then to Itahari.
Travel Tips and Recommendations
- The full trip typically takes 6 to 8 hours, with about 80% off-road riding.
- Roads are rough, so avoid taking cars unless they are four-wheel drive vehicles.
- Small CC bikes and scooters can handle the route easily.
- It is highly recommended to travel in groups rather than solo for safety and support.
