Shree Antu lies in the beautiful district of Ilam, one of the most scenic regions of Eastern Nepal. Whenever people talk about Shree Antu, the word “homestay” naturally comes along with it—and for good reason. It is one of the best places to stay overnight, offering a peaceful environment surrounded by lush tea gardens and rolling hills.
From the top, you can enjoy breathtaking views while sitting quietly amidst nature. Having experienced this magical place once before on a group ride, I found myself wanting to relive it again—but this time differently. I chose to go solo from Itahari, hoping to deeply connect with nature, surrender to the calmness of tea gardens, and simply pause—lying down, eyes closed, for hours.
And so, my journey began.

Preparing for the Ride
As a rider, preparation is always important. Fortunately, Shree Antu is not very far from Itahari. The total distance is approximately 140 KM, and it takes around 4 to 5 hours to reach by motorcycle.
Although it is possible to complete the trip in a single day, staying overnight is highly recommended. Most travelers prefer to experience the homestay culture for at least one night. However, since I planned a same-day return, I traveled light without carrying extra luggage. If you are planning to stay, carrying a pair of clothes and essentials would make your trip more comfortable.
Route Guide: How to Reach Shree Antu
My journey begins from Itahari, as it is centrally located. No matter where you’re coming from, chances are you’ll pass through Itahari unless you are already near Ilam.
From Itahari:
- Take the East–West Highway heading east
- Ride for about 2 hours until you reach Charali (Mechi region)
- From Charali, leave the highway and take the road towards Ilam
Interestingly, you don’t need to go all the way to Ilam Bazaar or even Phikkal. Instead:
- Cross Kanyam
- Between Kanyam and Phikkal, you’ll find a small junction
- Take the road leading to Shree Antu
From Kanyam, it’s about 20 KM to reach Shree Antu.
Road Condition
The journey from Itahari to Shree Antu is smooth and enjoyable. The entire route is fully pitched, making it accessible for:
- Motorcycles
- Scooters
- Cars
- Buses
This makes Shree Antu one of the most comfortable travel destinations compared to other off-road locations.
Major Attractions in Shree Antu
🌊 Antu Pokhari
The first place you’ll reach is Antu Pokhari, a beautiful pond surrounded by green hills, tea gardens, and cozy homestays. It’s a perfect place to relax and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.
🗼 Antu Dada (View Tower)
Just 2 to 3 KM ahead lies Antu Dada, the main viewpoint area. This place is famous for its:
- Stunning sunrise 🌅
- Beautiful sunset 🌄
- Panoramic Himalayan and hill views
There is also a well-managed tower where visitors can enjoy an even better view.
🎫 Entry Fee:
- NPR 25 (Nepalese citizens)
- NPR 100 (Foreigners)
The tower is one of the most well-managed viewpoints I have visited.
- Two-wheelers can reach the top directly
- Four-wheelers must be parked below
- A 30-minute walk is required from the parking area to the tower
Homestay Experience & Cost
Shree Antu is well known for its homestay culture. You can choose to stay either around Antu Pokhari or near Antu Dada.
💰 Cost:
- Around NPR 1000 per room
- Rooms can accommodate 2 to 10 people, depending on group size
📅 Important Tip:
On other days, rooms are generally available without difficulty
Friday evenings are usually very crowded
It’s best to book in advance if visiting on weekends
